施焕中，男，1964年10月出生，研究生学历，博士学位，教授职称，现任广西医科大学呼吸疾病研究所所长。学术兼职包括《中华结核和呼吸杂志》、《中华内科杂志》、《中华医学杂志英文版》、《英国医学杂志中文版》和《Chest中文版》编委等。2002年获全国优秀博士论文奖；2004年入选首批新世纪百千万人才工程国家级人选以及国家教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”，荣获吴阶平医学研究奖－保罗?杨森药学研究奖，被授予“卫生部有突出贡献中青年专家”称号，同年起享受国务院政府特殊津贴。2006年荣获首届“中国呼吸医师奖”；2007年荣获中华医学科技奖一等奖。
自1994年开始从事支气管哮喘发病机制和胸膜疾病免疫学的专项研究。主要学术贡献在于：① 证实白介素-4和白介素-5可直接趋化嗜酸细胞浸润到哮喘患者的呼吸道，并进一步将其激活释放毒性蛋白参与哮喘的发病过程，从而直接导致气道高反应性。② 发现嗜酸细胞进入血流后不但能够在变应原的激发下自血管腔浸润到气道组织并进入支气管腔内，而且同样能够从支气管腔内返回到粘膜组织，最后移行到局部引流淋巴结并定位于的T细胞区，并将经过处理的抗原信息呈递给淋巴结中的CD4+ T淋巴细胞，从而促使后者出现显著的增殖反应，最终激发Th2反应。③ 证实白介素-16可以将CD4+ T淋巴细胞动员浸润的胸膜腔；阐述CD4+CD25+ T细胞在恶性胸水的免疫调节作用。④ 系统分析多种可溶性介质对于鉴别诊断良恶性胸水的临床价值。
近年在相关学术领域单独编著学术专著1部，主编2部，副主编1部；作为通讯作者在SCI杂志发表论著、综述和述评28篇，累计影响因子超过120。所发表论文被SCI杂志他引400余次。
